Inspired to play on ANZAC Day in front of a huge crowd at Warby, the Burras battled both Healesville and the weather on their way to a very important win that sees them sitting at 2-0 going into a massive clash against reigning premiers Upwey next weekend.
1st Quarter (Warby 4.3- 27 to Healesville 2.1- 13)
Under skies threatening heavy rain, the Burras jumped out of the blocks early to set up a vital lead coming into the first change. Terry Walker made his presence felt immediately, and the run of our midfielders providing constant chances to Scotty Muir and co. down forward.
2nd Quarter (Warby 7.6- 48 to Healesville 5.4- 34)
Enter the rain, and enter Matty Lewis. The in and under specialist turned the wet game alight with a couple of great roving goals, and throwing himself on every contest. The Burras maintained their small 14 point lead, as Healesville did enough to hang on and keep themselves in the game.
3rd Quarter (Warby 9.12- 66 to Healesville 5.6- 36)
A massive effort from the Burras defence kept Healesville to only two points for the quarter as the lead was increased to 20 points. As the weather cleared, so too did the quality and skills of the game, with Warby utilising their running game plan to full advantage, switching the ball with purpose.
4th Quarter (Warby 13.13- 91 def. Healesville 7.10- 52)
Four final quarter goals ensured that the Burras won their second game of the year and began the season in the best possible way. The tackling and pressure was a highlight of the day, and the boys will continue to work hard at training to ensure that the wins keep coming.
Congratulations to Matthew Lewis for winning the medal for best on ground.

In a tight and enthralling contest, the Burras let go of their lead late of the game which was seized by Healesville who held on to take the four points. Although the boys played well, they would be disappointed with the loss and will be keen to bounce back next week against Upwey and look to get back on the winners list.
The boys loved playing in front of such a big and supportive crowd on a special day.

The new look Kookas secured their first victory of the season in what was a dominant and ruthless display of football. In overcast conditions on the Saturday at Gembrook, the Kookas played some exciting footy that never gave their opponents a chance. Fantastic work by the defence to keep Wandin scoreless for the entire game paved the way to being able to have 60 scoring shots over the four quarters. Accuracy was the only issue, as the Kookas shared the ball amongst each other which was highlighted by 15 individual goalkickers.
In what was a fantastic effort by the Kookas, special mention must be made to the Wandin boys who never dropped their heads and fought the game out to the very end.
Next week will prove a greater test to the Kookas, as the take on Upwey at Warby in what will be a great game.
* Note: every player from all three teams were proud to play football over such a special weekend, and were honoured to represent the club with those who gave their lives for our country all those years ago firmly in mind.
Go Burras!
